Proposing a Manuscript
We welcome submissions of complete and incomplete manuscripts. The proposal review process consists of three stages.
Proposal Submission
To be able to assess your proposal and reach a decision, we need the following:
- The manuscript: If the manuscript is not complete yet, please send us what you have written so far.
- Your CV: We need to know your background and why you are suited to writing this book.
- Book Proposal Form: Download from here and complete all sections.
Editorial Review
Upon receiving your book proposal, our editorial team will review it and respond within two working days. At times, we will need more information from you before we can make a final decision, so we may have to ask you to send us additional information.
When we receive a proposal, we assess the following:
- Whether the subject is one we are interested in
- What new contributions it offers to the already published works in the field
- The amount of interest in such a topic among readers
- The quality of the manuscript
These checks allow us to decide on the suitability of the manuscript for Safis.
Publishing Decision
There are three possible publishing outcomes of the editorial review, depending on our assessment of the commercial potential of the book:
- Publisher bearing costs: The manuscript proposal is accepted with us bearing all the publishing costs.
- Author-subsidised: The manuscript proposal is accepted with the author bearing some of the publishing costs.
- Author bearing costs: The manuscript proposal is accepted with the author bearing all of the publishing costs. The costs will depend on what optional services the author chooses. All publishing services are listed on this page.
The terms of the publishing agreement would then reflect which of the three publishing routes was chosen.
The editorial review could result in the rejection of the manuscript proposal if it is not aligned with the kind of content we publish or provide publishing services for.
